Ongoing project to intervene in the Town Commons park redesign and Greenville's recorded history. Our main focus is to rebuild the bell tower of Sycamore Hill Church as a historical landmark in Greenville. The Shore Drive neighborhood and Sycamore Hill Church were taken by redevelopment in the 1960's. This history has been forgotten by most of Greenville, especially in dominant historical accounts.
This image shows the church after the surrounding neighborhood was razed. The church was burned down by an arsonist after legal battles between the city and the church over the property ended in a stalemate. The city then bought the land and moved the 40 bodies in the cemetery after the fire.
